A sustainable design studio, run by the person who does the work.

OakFox designs brands and websites, runs marketing and advises on sustainability, often inside a single project, for businesses that want to grow without the environmental cost.

Fifteen years of brand and web work, one studio.

Nathan founded OakFox after more than 15 years of brand and web work, for local independents and international names alike. Alongside client work he designs and builds the studio's own products, apps used by thousands of families and A11yMate (accessibility checking for WordPress), publishes original sustainability research, and stays involved in every project from the first conversation to handover.

OakFox runs as a small core team with a wider network of trusted specialists: photographers, illustrators, copywriters and specialist developers, brought in when a project needs them. Brand, web and environmental work sit under one roof, so a project can move from identity to launch to sustainability reporting without changing hands.

Away from the studio he hikes, volunteers on local conservation projects, and spends most weekends somewhere outdoors with his wife and two young children.

What the studio does

Brand and identity

Strategy, naming, identity systems, packaging and print, built to hold up on every surface a business actually uses.

Web design and development

Static-first sites on renewable-powered infrastructure. Astro, React and headless CMS, measured against real performance and carbon budgets.

Marketing and content

Editorial direction, campaign work, photography and copy, commissioned through a network of trusted specialists.

Environmental consultancy

Sustainability audits, supply chain reviews, reporting, and the original research behind them, covering ancient woodlands, biodiversity and UK ecosystem health.

Research, not borrowed credentials

Our environmental consultancy is grounded in original work. We draw on it directly when advising clients on sustainability claims, supply chains and reporting.

  • Public perception of ancient woodlands

Original field and survey research into how UK communities understand, value and engage with ancient woodland habitats.

  • Biodiversity and UK ecosystem health

Ongoing study of biodiversity indicators across UK ecosystems, focused on how independent businesses and landowners can make a real contribution.

  • Sustainability in practice

Applied research into supply chain transparency, greenwashing patterns and what low-impact business looks like day to day.

We also audited 100 UK small business homepages for carbon and published the data. Each dot is one site, coloured by grade; the ringed one is ours. Read the study.

What the work is built on

  1. Sustainability first, not last

Every decision, from the suppliers we recommend to the hosting we deploy on, is weighed for its environmental impact. We work on verified renewable-powered infrastructure, and we'll tell you when a project can't be delivered responsibly on the terms proposed.

  2. Craft over volume

We take on a small number of projects each quarter. No templates, no reskins, and no pipeline of junior designers producing work under a senior name. The person who quoted you does the work.

  3. Honest partnership

Clear timelines, clear pricing and a clear view of what we can and can't do. If something is outside our skills, we'll say so. If a supplier you've been recommended is greenwashing, we'll say that too.

Based in West Lancashire, working UK-wide

The studio is at Martland Mill in Burscough, between Ormskirk and Southport, a few minutes from the West Lancashire coast and roughly 45 minutes from central Manchester or Liverpool. Most collaboration happens remotely, with visits in person for brand discovery, photography or installations when they matter.

We work with independent businesses and established brands across the UK, Ireland and mainland Europe. Local clients have included studios in Ormskirk, Southport, Preston and Manchester; remote clients have ranged from the Lake District and Dublin to London and further afield.

Start with the person who'll do the work.
